Calling on Congress

On August 3rd, I listened to the Poor People's Campaign appeal to contact Senate Majority leader, Mitch McConnell, to challenge him to stop holding up bills so needed by the American people. Among them was a bill addressing voter rights (which amounts to voter suppression) which he has sidelined for seven years! With the upcoming elections, this is an urgent issue. In his state of Kentucky, voters had to wait hours in line at a recent election because of the lack of polling places.
There are also the issues of health care, a living wage and unemployment insurance. All people need these kinds of support. These requests are not asking for anything the members of Congress do not have. Congressional members are assured a life time of health benefits as well as other benefits.
To advocate for these issues, I called Senator McConnell's office at 202-224-2541. I got an answering machine that was full, but I will keep trying. This very much touches the lives of vulnerable women.
